Luan Gallery to host LGBTQ+ activism events this Saturday
Luan Gallery are set to host two LQBTQ+ activism events this Saturday.
Both the Pride and Protest Banner Making workshop and the History of LGBTQIA+ Activism in Ireland talk will take place this Saturday, August 9.
An insightful and engaging talk by artist and researcher Han Tiernan will take place from 12pm, as they delve into the history of Irish LGBTQIA+ activism.
This talk will shine a light on key moments from the past 50 years of marches and protests in Ireland, with a special focus on the AIDS Memorial Quilt, currently on display at Luan Gallery, and a powerful selection of placards and banners that have shaped Ireland’s LGBTQIA+ protest culture.
Afterwards, a hands-on banner-making workshop will follow, which will explore the vibrant history and aesthetics of LGBTQ+ banners, flags, signs, and symbols, and then help you visualise your own values, ideas, and concerns through the creation of your own protest banner.
All materials will be provided, including fabric, cardboard, coloured paper, markers, stencils, glue, and scissors. Feel free to bring anything extra you'd like to include in your design, like personal items or images that are meaningful to you.
