Tánaiste Simon Harris to officially open Tullamore Show this Sunday

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister for Defence, Simon Harris TD, will be in Tullamore this Sunday, August 10, to officially open the Tullamore Show, Ireland’s largest one-day agricultural event.

The event is scheduled to officially open at 12 noon at the Butterfield estate, Blueball.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin was initially due to perform the official opening, but it was confirmed today (Thursday) that he is now unable to attend. It's understood that Fianna Fáil's deputy leader, Minister Jack Chambers, will be among the Government figures in Tullamore for the event on Sunday.

Offaly TD John Clendennen said: “It’s a great honour to welcome An Tánaiste Simon Harris to Tullamore for this year’s show.

“His attendance underlines the national importance of this event, not just for agriculture, but for the entire rural economy.

“The Tullamore Show is a celebration of everything great about rural Ireland, innovation, community, tradition, and resilience. I’m delighted that the Tánaiste will join us to acknowledge and support that spirit.”

With an average 60,000 visitors in recent years, the Tullamore Show is one of the standout events in the Irish summer calendar, showcasing the best of Irish agriculture, food, crafts, enterprise, and rural life.

“I’m very much looking forward to attending the Tullamore Show this Sunday. It promises to be another fantastic event and I want to conclude by acknowledging the great work of all the show committee led by John Keena, as well a local councillor Neil for all the work and preparation in advance of the show,” concluded Deputy Clendennen.
