Artist's Athlone gallery exhibition gets underway
An exhibition by Roscommon-based visual artist Michaela McCarroll has gotten underway in Athlone Art Gallery, located in The Village at Burgess, on Lloyd's Lane.
The exhibition is Michaela's first solo show in the Athlone Art Gallery, which said it was "delighted to show her work".
An artist who works in oil on canvas, Michaela graduated with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art from University College Wales Aberystwyth in 1996.
A description of her exhibition states: "Horses have long held a strong fascination for the artist. This vision of the equine form, along with the sensory experience of being around horses, play an integral role in her artistic expression and are the main drivers of her work.
"They are a kindred spirit in an environment which often feels too overwhelming and hostile, too noisy, too superficial and demanding compliance without question.
"McCarroll sees the horse as an empathetic soul, letting us know we are not alone in a society where people don’t seem to understand each other’s experiences of the world."
Michela McCarroll's exhibition will remain on display in the Athlone Art Gallery until mid-September.
