Dun na Sí in Moate “will be buzzing with life” throughout August and September, with activities including a market day this Saturday, Heritage Week events, and the annual outdoor film screening on September 6.

Busy line-up of activities at Dún na Sí in Moate this August and September

As summer begins to fade, Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park in Moate is gearing up for a series of events that promise to bring the community together through tradition, nature, wellness, and celebration.

On Saturday, August 16, visitors will have the chance to take part in traditional St Brigid's Cross weaving workshops run by the Irish Heritage Crafts Co-op.

Later in the week, on Wednesday, August 20, children and families can join the Breeding Waders EIP team for a lively nature session exploring wetland birds and their habitats at our unique Turlough.

The celebrations continue Saturday, August 23rd, with Open Heritage Day, on which there will be free entry for all visitors!

That will be a full-day event featuring live demonstrations of rural crafts such as blacksmithing, willow weaving and green woodwork, along with free guided tours of the park’s heritage attractions.

That same afternoon, families are invited to Wild Child Day, a magical nature experience for children at the Fairy Lake, filled with bugs, flowers, and storytelling. Wellies and bug jars are highly recommended!

Also returning to Dún na Sí this week is the nationally recognised 'Her Outdoors Week' — a growing campaign that promotes female participation in outdoor activities across Ireland.

Today (Wednesday, August 13) families, friends, and individuals of all skill levels can try orienteering, an outdoor activity combining physical challenge with map-based navigation.

The following evening, Thursday, August 14, two gentle movement sessions will take place: a relaxing yoga class in the park followed by a tai chi session surrounded by nature. Both activities are accessible, beginner-friendly, and require no special equipment.

To round out the season, the final two Market Days at Dún na Sí will take place this Saturday, August 16, and again on Saturday, September 20.

These markets are known for their vibrant mix of local crafts, homemade produce, and friendly atmosphere, making them the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon. Each market runs from 11-4pm and is free to attend.

Finally, the park will be the setting for an open-air screening of the beloved animated film The Iron Giant, delivered to the community by Moate Town Team on the evening of Friday, September 6.

As in previous years, the event promises a cosy, community-oriented movie night under the stars.

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and snacks and enjoy the show in the scenic surroundings of Dún na Sí.
