Pádraic Connaughton announced he was stepping down today.

Connaughton steps down as Westmeath camogie manager

Westmeath Camogie has confirmed that Pádraic Connaughton has stepped down from his role as manager of the county’s senior camogie team after two years in charge.

Connaughton’s tenure will be remembered for significant achievements, most notably guiding the Lake County to the national camogie league division 2A title in Croke Park in April 2024.

In 2025, Westmeath took on the challenge of the intermediate championship, and while they will remain at that grade for next season, in a statement posted on social media today from the county board described the team as being in “a positive and progressive place” thanks to Connaughton’s leadership.

“Pádraic has dedicated himself to Westmeath Camogie wholeheartedly from the outset and his passion and commitment to the game is unwavering,” the statement read.

“His presence on the sideline will be missed, but there is no doubt that at intercounty level, Westmeath Camogie is in a positive and progressive place thanks to his mentorship.”

The county executive also extended their gratitude and best wishes to Connaughton for the future.

No details have yet been announced regarding the search for his successor.
