Ace to remember for 90 year old Athlone Golf Club member
Local golfing enthusiast Eddie Kelly had a golfing moment to remember recently when he aced the second hole at Athlone Golf Club.
The 90 year old Retreat Park resident was playing a charity outing in aid of the Samaritans when he his tee shot on the 140 metre hole landed on the green and subsequently dropped into the hole.
Playing alongside Denis and Lily O'Sullivan and Anthony McEnroe, he thought his drive had ran across the green but to his amazement his golf ball was at the bottom of the cup as he prepared to hit his second shot.
The Ferbane native has been a popular member of Athlone Golf Club for over 30 years and is a regular Wednesday golfer with close friends Dan Clarke, Davey Egan and Denis O'Sullivan.
"I love the camaraderie and friendship which golf has given me. It was a great occasion scoring a hole in one and I look forward to many more years on the golf course," Eddie said.
