Athlone Town aim for return to winning ways in Women's FAI Cup
As the countdown continues to the return of their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign, Athlone Town's domestic season continues tomorrow (Saturday, August 16) with a Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup quarter-final fixture against Peamount United.
The 2023 winners travel to Greenogue Park for the 4pm fixture and will be favourites to advance to the semi-final of this year's competition.
Athlone Town defeated Peamount in Lissywollen in a June league fixture and will be hoping to replicate such a feat in the capital city tomorrow.
While the club's participation in Europe is a mark of progression for Colin Fortune's charges, the team's league form has momentarily faltered with three successive draws (against Galway United, Treaty United and Bohemians) allowing Shelbourne to claim top spot in the division.
Prior to the team's departure for the Netherlands and their return to UEFA Champions League action, they will host Shelbourne in a crucial top of the table clash in Lissywollen on Saturday week, August 23, kick -off, 7.35pm.
