Planned water outages in parts of Athlone early next week

Uisce Éireann has said residents in certain areas of east Athlone are likely to experience daytime water outages on two days next week.

The planned outages are due to works being carried out between 9am and 5pm on Monday and Tuesday next, August 18 and 19.

The areas set to experience disruption to their water supply, according to Uisce Éireann, are Cartrontroy Road, Killyon Hill and Retreat Heights.

Uisce Éireann said the water outage affecting these areas was "necessary" in order to "facilitate essential works to the water network".

Donal O'Connor of Uisce Éireann said the works would be carried out as quickly as possible in order to limit the disruption to local homes and businesses.

"We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by a planned outage and thank customers in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential works," he said.

It typically takes two to three hours, following repairs, for normal supply to restore to all properties. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
