Local star Payne signs two year deal with Leicester City

Ballinasloe native Heather Payne has signed a two year contract with Barclay's Women's Super League (WSL) club Leicester City.

The Republic of Ireland international, who departed Everton in July following the conclusion of her two year contract, will be hoping to debut for her new club when Leicester City play Manchester United in their opening game of the new WSL season on September 7.

Payne, who can play in midfield or as a striker, made 33 appearances for Everton and was awarded the club's 'Young Player of the Season' accolade in her debut campaign for the Toffees.

Heather started her career as a youngster with Ballinasloe Town and also represented the ADSL, before moving on to play for Peamount United.

She has represented her country on 50 occasions and will be hoping to build on her cap haul when the national team returns to competitive action with back-to-back games against Belgium in the UEFA Women's Nations League in October.
