Athlone Town to host two supporter engagement events
Athlone Town have announced that the club will host two supporter engagement events this week.
This evening (Tuesday, August 19), the senior women's team will host an open training session from 6.30pm-7.30pm at Athlone Town Stadium.
In advance of the team's UEFA Champions League second qualifying round games in the Netherlands next week, the open training session will allow supporters an ample opportunity to meet and greet the players.
Athlone will play Icelandic champions Breidablik UBK on Wednesday, August 27, in what will be the first fixture of a mini-tournament in Enschede.
Should they win this fixture they will progress to the final of the mini-tournament where they will play either FC Twente or Crvena Zvezda on Saturday, August 30.
However, if Athlone fail to beat Breidablik UBK they will contest a third place play-off fixture against either their Dutch or Serbian counterparts, a game which will take place on Saturday, August 30.
Prior to their departure for the Netherlands, Colin Fortune's charges will have their minds firmly focused on the team's televised top-of-the-table league clash against Shelbourne taking place in Lissywollen on Saturday night, kick-off 7.35pm.
Meanwhile, supporters will also have the opportunity to meet with the club's recently appointed Chief Executive Officer Steven Gray at a fan forum in The Olive Bar on Saturday, August 23, at 5pm.
Gray will take the time to interact with supporters answer questions and discuss future plans for the club.
The 43-year-old was appointed CEO after working with the Shamrock Rovers Academy, where he was its head of education.
The appointment is the latest development in a restructuring of operations at the club, following the arrival of US investor Nick Giannotti as Athlone Town's new chairman in recent months.
