Athlone Town depart for European action in the Netherlands
The Athlone Town playing squad and management have departed for the Netherlands ahead of their UEFA Women's Champions League second qualifying round fixtures this week.
Athlone Town play the first of two mini-tournament games against Icelandic champions Breidablik UBK on Wednesday, August 27, at 12pm.
Should they win this fixture they will progress to the final of the mini-tournament where they will play either FC Twente or Crvena Zvezda at 6pm on Saturday, August 30.
However, if Athlone fail to beat Breidablik UBK they will contest a third place play-off fixture against either their Dutch or Serbian counterparts, a game which will also take place on Saturday, August 30 with a 12pm kick-off.
The players will certainly have momentum on their return to European action following their 2-1 league success over Shelbourne on Friday night, a win which saw Colin Fortune's charges return to the top of the division.
