Athlone's Thyme restaurant blown away by celebrity chef's 'superb' review

Athlone's Thyme restaurant said it was "blown away" after receiving a rave review from celebrity chef Neven Maguire.

The 51-year-old named the 'superb' restaurant as one that he 'keeps going back to' in the recent review.

"Very kind words from the nicest man in the hospitality industry," Thyme restaurant wrote, sharing the review on their social media.

Whilst the fantastic food one one of the notable aspects mentioned by Mr Maguire, there's something extra special that sets Thyme apart from the rest: the atmosphere.

"Thyme is an excellent example of great hospitality," Mr Maguire said in his review, published in the Farmers Journal.

Thyme restaurant was opened in 2007 by Tara and John Coffey, and holds a number of prestigious accolades including the Michelin Bib Gourmand (retained for the sixth year as of 2025), as well as recognition in the Sunday Times '100 Best Restaurants' list for 2025.
