Athlone Town's Champions League action this week to be streamed for free online

Athlone Town's UEFA Women's Champions League second qualifying round group fixture in the Netherlands tomorrow (Wednesday) will be streamed live, on a free to view basis, on the LOITV platform.

Athlone Town will face Icelandic champions Breidablik FC in Sportpark Schreurserve Enschede, with the game kicking off at 12 noon on Wednesday.

LOITV, which is the official streaming service of the League of Ireland, confirmed on social media this morning that they would be streaming this historic fixture as Athlone aim to make further progress on the European stage.

The Westmeath Independent contacted the FAI and Athlone Town to ask if there would be a charge to view tomorrow's game on LOITV, and both confirmed it would be available to watch for free.

"This game is free to all. Users will have to register, but there will be no charge to view the game," said a spokesperson. "Existing LOITV customers will have access with their current subscriptions."

The Athlone-Breidablik game is the first of two games which Colin Fortune's side will play in the Netherlands this week.

Should Athlone win tomorrow, they will progress to the final of the second qualifying round mini-tournament where they will play either FC Twente or Crvena Zvezda (also known as Red Star Belgrade) at 6pm on Saturday, August 30.

The losing team in the Athlone-Breidablik fixture will contest a third place play-off against either their Dutch or Serbian counterparts, a game which will also take place on Saturday, August 30 with a 12pm kick-off.

Athlone Town confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that there are also plans for the club's game on Saturday to be streamed for free on LOITV, on the same basis as the Wednesday fixture.

The Town advanced to this stage of the competition courtesy of comprehensive wins over Cardiff City and Croatia team ZNK Agram in their initial qualifying round fixtures at the end of July and in early August.
