Motorist detected over speed limit in Glasson on National Slowdown Day
Gardai detected a motorist driving at 91km/h in a 80km/h zone on the N55 at Glasson during National Slowdown Day on Monday.
The motorist was detected during a 24-hour national An Garda Síochána speed enforcement operation supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
A number of speeding detections were made nationally over the course of the day - elsewhere in the Midlands a driver was clocked at 75km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Dangan Road in Tullamore.
The National Slowdown Day road safety initiative aims to promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide, coinciding with the first full week of schools reopening across the country.
Gardai said the aim of National Slow Down Day is to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding, encourage a national conversation on the impact of speeding, increase overall compliance with speed limits in place nationwide and deter those intent on driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.
