Athlone Film Club returns with French comedy drama
Athlone Film Club is delighted to announce its return for a new season at the Dean Crowe Theatre next Tuesday evening, September 9.
The 2025-2026 season kicks off with the highly-acclaimed comedy drama ‘The Marching Band’. The film’s central character is a successful conductor named Thibaut. Having been diagnosed with leukaemia, Thibaut’s best hope for survival is a bone marrow transplant from a suitable family donor.
His sister takes the test, but the results lead to the revelation that Thibaut was actually adopted as a child and that he has a secret biological brother, cafeteria worker Jimmy. The two brothers meet and discover a shared passion for music, and before long form a strong bond via an unexpected collaboration with Jimmy’s workplace marching band.
The Marching Band is a delight - a French comedy-drama that’s as funny as it is heartwarming. Boasting a pair of charismatic leading performances from Benjamin Lavernhe and Pierre Lottin, director Emmanuel Courcol’s film is a real winner.
Athlone Film Club is very much looking forward to welcoming back both regular and new cinephiles to the Dean Crowe Theatre. Doors open at the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone on Tuesday, September 9 at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm.
‘The Marching Band’ is a French language film with English subtitles. The running time is 103 minutes. Entry is €10 per film, cash only please.
Athlone Film Club was set up in 2008 under the patronage of the Dean Crowe Theatre Trust and aims to give local audiences the opportunity to see a range of world and classic cinema that rarely make it to commercial venues.
