Roscommon goalkeeper receives prestigious Golden Glove award

Roscommon goalkeeper Helena Cummins has been awarded the 2025 ZuCar Golden Glove award.

The county custodian won a popular vote on the Ladies Gaelic Football Association website, receiving the individual honour in recognition of her brilliant save to deny Fermanagh’s Joanne Doonan in the group stages of the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship.

Helena, from the Michael Glaveys club, was one of five nominees for the prestigious individual honour, along with Eimear Barry (Laois), Robyn Murray (Meath), Dearbhla Gower (Donegal) and Clare Friel (Donegal).

Over 4,600 votes were submitted for the Golden Glove award and Helena’s save accounted for 1,605, clear of her nearest challenger, Laois netminder Eimear Barry (1227), who was a previous winner of the award in 2022.

Helena was presented with her award at Croke Park by Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Moate native Trina Murray, and Gavin Hydes, CEO Joe Duffy Group, on behalf of ZuCar, the LGFA’s Official Performance Partner and sponsor of the All-Ireland U18 Championships.

“Congratulations to Hannah and Helena as they visit Croke Park today to collect their ZuCar Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards.

“We had a big response to our Golden Glove vote on the LGFA website and Helena’s brilliant save came out on top.

“Inter-county football is very much a team game but it’s also important to recognise individual excellence and these awards do just that," Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Trina Murray, commented.

Gavin Hydes, CEO Joe Duffy Group, also added his congratulations to the Roscommon netminder.

“Huge congratulations to Helena on her award win, and to all Golden Glove nominees and players who featured in the race for the ZuCar Golden Boot award.

“Helena is a wonderful goalkeeper and Roscommon are in the fortunate position to have her as the last line of defence," Mr Hydes said.

Stellar Dublin forward Hannah Tyrrell was also recognised for her scoring achievements in the TG4 All-Ireland Championships, the Na Fianna player topping the individual scoring charts across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior grades in the All-Ireland series with a tally of 6-28.
