Vocalist Eleanor Shanley will speak at the event in Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church, Coosan.

Highly respected vocalist to speak at Coosan Church family day this weekend

A highly respected Irish vocalist Eleanor Shanley has been chosen as the guest speaker for the St. Mary's Parish Annual Family Day.

Taking place in Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church, Coosan on Sunday, September 14 at 12 noon, the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Mary’s Parish has extended a warm invitation to the people and families of the parish to join them for a day of community and celebration.

A key part of the event over the years has been to invite a guest speaker to share something of their life experience and wisdom with the parish.

Eleanor, a native of Keshcarrigan in Leitrim, is one of Ireland's most loved and respected vocalists. Having started her professional career with De Dannan, she has a very successful solo career as well as working and recording with musicians such as Ronnie Drew, Donal Lunny, Sharon Shannon, U2 and many others.

Speaking ahead of the event, Fr Pat Murphy said: "For more than 20 years, the Annual Family Day Mass and celebrations have been taking place in Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church, Coosan on a Sunday in September. It is a day when we invite families to come to Coosan church for Mass.

"It is an opportunity to invite people who are new to the parish or the area to come along. We aim to celebrate all that is good in family life and in the life of our parish. When it is at its best a parish is a family of families. We encourage people not to be in a hurry home, but to take time after Mass to chat with neighbours and friends. We provide tea/coffee and light refreshments outside and depending on the weather we have some sports organised for the children."

All are welcome to join the Annual Family Day Mass and celebrations.
