Man charged after weapons seizure in Ballinasloe

A man in his 20s has been charged and is due to appear before the district court next month in connection with a weapons seizure in Ballinasloe yesterday (Monday) morning.

Gardaí said they received a report of a man brandishing a weapon at River Street in Ballinasloe at approximately 8:40am on Monday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers searched a car and seized a machete, hatchet and knife.

A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and was detained for a time yesterday at a station in the Garda North Western Region, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardai said today that the man has since been charged and released on bail to appear before Ballinasloe District Court next month.
