McHugh primed to become Westmeath senior football manager
Mark McHugh is primed to become the new Westmeath senior football manager.
The 2012 Donegal All-Ireland SFC winner was a key part of the Westmeath set-up this year and looks likely to fill the void left by Dermot McCabe who stepped down as manager after just one season to take charge of his native Cavan.
Westmeath GAA County Committee Chairman, Frank Mescall, confirmed that McHugh will be proposed for the role by the five-man sub-committee appointed to oversee the process of choosing a new manager.
"Mark McHugh will be proposed for the Westmeath senior football manager's role at a meeting of club's tonight (Tuesday)," Mr Mescall said.
If appointed, it will be McHugh’s first senior inter-county management role, having previously worked with Roscommon in 2023 and Galway giants Moycullen last year.
He is highly regarded by the Westmeath players and his appointment would ensure continuity with the outgoing management.
