Roscommon clubs learn fate in quarter-final draw
A semi-final meeting between Clann na nGael and St Brigid's is a live prospect as this year's Roscommon senior football championship enters the knockout stage of competition.
The two South Roscommon clubs are paired to meet in a final four fixture should they win their respective quarter-final games.
Clann na nGael will play Elphin, while St Brigid's meet 2024 finalists Roscommon Gaels in their last eight fixture.
En route to their quarter-final meeting with Elphin, Clann na nGael posted two group victories over St Dominics and St Faithleachs, their solitary championship loss to date being against Padraig Pearses.
St Brigid's enjoyed comprehensive victories over Elphin and Western Gaels in their opening group fixtures before tasting a surprise defeat to Michael Glaveys in their final round robin encounter.
Reigning senior football champions Padraig Pearses will have to overcome Boyle in their quarter-final fixture.
Pearses defeated Oran in a preliminary quarter-final tie on Wednesday night and now play an in form Boyle team managed by former Sligo senior footballer Eamonn O'Hara.
Should Pearses overcome the Boyle challenge they will play either Michael Glaveys or St Faithleachs at the semi-final stage of the competition.
The four quarter-final fixtures will be played at neutral venues on the weekend of September 20/21.
