McGann in matchday squad for Ireland's World Cup quarter-final clash
Athlone's Anna McGann has been named in the matchday squad for the Ireland women's rugby world cup quarter-final game against France on Sunday afternoon in Sandy Park, Exeter (kick-off, 1pm).
Despite making a second half substitute appearance in Ireland's heavy Pool C loss to New Zealand, McGann is listed as a replacement for the encounter against an undefeated France team.
Ballinasloe duo Aoibheann Reilly and Béibhinn Parsons retain their starting positions from the New Zealand game, both players filling pivotal defensive roles.
There is further Midlands representation in the starting team with Clara native and former Moate Community School student Aoife Dalton, selected to start in her customary centre berth.
Should Ireland overcome the France challenge, their potential semi-final opposition will be England or Scotland.
