Gardai appeal for witnesses after fatal County Roscommon road accident

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in County Roscommon on Tuesday evening which claimed the life of a woman in her 80's.

The collision involving a SUV and a truck occurred on the N5 at Scramoge shortly after 5pm.

A passenger in the SUV, a female in her 80's, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was removed to the morgue where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The driver of the SUV, a female in her 70's, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4:45pm and 5:15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
