'Trucking For Cancer' Athlone to Roscommon truck run taking place this Sunday

Trucking For Cancer will hit the road this week in a major fundraising drive for cancer support services.

Organised by Gerry Grennan from Swinford, and Roscommon trucker James Morris, a nationwide tour will see them visit 19 cancer support centres in a 48-hour period.

Trucking for Cancer takes place from Thursday to Saturday (September 18 to 20) and donations can be made here.

The fundraiser will be starting in Roscommon tomorrow (Thursday) and finishing in Ballinasloe on Saturday, with a special truck run from Athlone to Roscommon taking place on Sunday.

The truck run starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday at DPD in Athlone, heading down to the mart in Roscommon. Everyone is welcome - come along and show your support.

Registration opens at 1 p.m. and trucks, vans and classic cars are all welcome to join the convoy. Entry is €20 per vehicle, with entertainment and a DJ on site.

And when the trucks get to Roscommon, Guinness World record holder Blade of Glory will be there for a live truck pull - attempting to pull 60 tonnes, so there will be a great buzz about.

James and Gerry have both seen their own families touched by cancer and experienced first-hand the incredible support from cancer care centres.

To give back, they decided on this ambitious challenge - visiting all 19 cancer support centres across Ireland.

The run is about raising awareness, saying thank you, and supporting the vital work these centres do every day for patients and families.
