Pallets and tyres set alight in Battery Heights fire

One unit from Athlone Fire Station was called to the scene of a fire in the Battery Heights area of Athlone on Friday evening last which sent plumes of smoke billowing into the night sky across large parts of the town.

A spokesperson for Athlone Fire Service said one unit from the local fire station was dispatched to the scene of a fire beside the water tower in Battery Heights at approximately 8.08pm on Friday night last, September 19.

The unit returned to the station shortly before 9pm, having extinguished a fire which was started when a large number of pallets and tyres were set alight.

No injuries were reported, and no damage was caused to any properties in the vicinity of the fire, according to the local fire service.

Garda from Athlone Garda Station were also in attendance at the scene of Friday evening's fire.
