Moore's clash with St John's abandoned
Reigning RDFL Premier Division champions St John's Athletic and Moore United will have to reconvene their league meeting after last Sunday's fixture in Lecarrow was abandoned.
The game was abandoned because of an injury to Moore player Alan Duffy, who was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore for assessment.
“Everyone at the club wishes Alan a speedy recovery,” Moore United posted online. St John's Athletic has also extended best wishes to Alan, who previously played for the Lecarrow-based club.
When the game was brought to a premature end with eleven minutes remaining, Moore were winning 3-1 through a brace of goals from Charles Nevin and one from Jay McPhilbin. The St John's goal came from Cian Kelly.
Also in the Premier Division last weekend, Dunmore Town had an impressive 4–2 win away to Boyle Celtic.
In Division 1, RDFL newcomers Ballinahown made it three games without defeat. The Westmeath/Offaly border outfit travelled to Tarmon and came away with a 2–1 win over CP Ajax. Oisin O'Reilly scored after 13 minutes and Mauricio Cordeiro added a second with 54 minutes played. Joey Kilkenny pulled one back for the Castleplunkett side.
St John's Athletic B had a good win away to Cloonfad United. The home side missed a few really good chances before Carl Ferrick scored for St John's just before the break. The home side levelled the game through Darragh Flynn with 15 minutes played in the second half, but MJ O'Connor scored on the break near the end of the game to give St John's a 2–1 win.
Ballinasloe Town beat Kilkerrin United 4–2 at the Curragh Grounds. The home side took an early lead but Declan Murphy and Michael Fahy had Kilkerrin 2–1 ahead with 30 minutes played. However, Ballinasloe were on top from then on and they added three more before the end, Christy Smith, Danny O'Brien, Daragh Concannon and Cameron O'Leary all scoring for the winners.
Having been a founding member of the Roscommon and District League back in 1971, Ballyleague/Lanesboro side Ballyboro made a welcome return to the league defeating Cam Celtic/Dysart 5–2 in their Division 2 game at Dysart.
Jordan Donnellan and Aidan Dooney gave Ballyboro a two-goal lead before Andy Higgins pulled a goal back for Cam Celtic/Dysart, but some outstanding saves by Mark Tarmey kept his side in front. Donnellan added his second before David Cummins scored a second for Dysart. However, Donnellan added two more before the end to secure all three points for Ballyboro.
St Cuan's/Ahascragh United started the new season with a 5–0 in over Rahara Rovers at Ahascragh. The sides were even enough in the first half but after the break the home side were well on top. The ever-reliable Simon Leonard scored three with Omar Dalton and Marcos Santos adding one each for the winners.
Moore United 'B' were no match for Castlerea Celtic 'B', the hosts posting an impressive 8-0 victory, with Gerry Ward scoring three goals.
