Funding boost for Destination Athlone
An allocation of €15,000 has been approved for Destination Athlone by members of Westmeath County Council’s Economic Development, Enterprise, Agriculture and Tourism Strategic Policy Committee (SPC)
At the SPC meeting held in Mullingar recently, members were informed by director of services, Jean Ryan, that the allocation was for a targeted marketing campaign from September to November, which can be “a challenging time for businesses”.
“This marketing campaign will raise awareness of quality accommodation and diverse dining experiences to a variety of engaging attractions and activities, all providing excellent value,” said Ms Ryan, adding that the aim is to increase website traffic by 10% year-on-year to support the continued economic growth of Athlone, and that the campaign will include radio advertising, social media and influencer activity, print media and administration.
Ms Ryan said the grant amount was in line with the 2024 allocation, while chairman, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke was pleased to see the allocation coming sufficiently early to bring benefit.
Destination Athlone is a group which oversees the marketing and promotion of Athlone and its environs as a visitor and tourist destination.
At the core of the initiative is the collaboration between stakeholders including Westmeath County Council, Roscommon County Council, Athlone Chamber of Commerce, Failte Ireland, hotels and hospitality businesses.
