'March For Palestine' event to take place this month

Athlone Palestine Solidarity Campaign is preparing to host a 'March For Palestine' event next month.

Taking place on Saturday, October 11, at 2pm, the march will begin at St Mary's Church and end at the canopy in Church Street.

Activists from across the Midlands have been working together for a number of weeks to plan the march.

Previous events hosted by Athlone Palestine Solidarity Campaign have garnered huge support from local people, with the most recent demonstration in June of this year receiving a turn out of over 100 people.

"As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate through weaponised hunger, it is important for the people of Athlone to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, as Athlone lost many a soul to hunger and starvation during our very own genocidal ‘An Gorta Mór’," the Athlone Palestine Solidarity Campaign group said.

The Athlone Palestine Solidarity Campaign group are calling on the Government to enact Occupied Territories Bill and end the use of Shannon airport by the US military for transporting weapons to the genocidal Israeli regime.

"Finally, we call on our supporters to bring flags and banners in support of Palestine," the campaign group concluded.
