Westmeath Cross Country Championships

The Westmeath Cross Country Championships took place in the beautiful surroundings of Belvedere House and Gardens on Wednesday, September 24, with schools from across the county competing.

Moate Community School was proudly represented by an impressive team of 52 athletes, who showed outstanding determination across all age groups. The dedication of the students was rewarded in style, as 10 athletes returned home with medals after strong performances in their respective races.

There were many highlights on the day, the first year girls and boys had a fantastic performance on their first day out with Keira Guinan, Ethan McArdle, Eoin Duffy and Oscar Bradley all taking home medals, our 2nd year girls also had great success with June Stenson, Sarah Dolan and Adedoyin Showunmi all taking home medals in their race.

In the 3rd Year and Transition Year race, Ally Duffy stormed to victory, taking 1st place with a commanding run followed by Mollie Quinn who also took home a medal. The Duffy siblings continued to make a big impression on the day with Jack the oldest in the family finishing in a time of 5.33 in the 5th and 6th Year race securing him a medal.

The success of the medal winners was matched by the tremendous effort of every runner, many of whom secured personal best performances.

Moate Community School extends congratulations to all students who took part, and thanks to Mullingar Harriers for hosting such a well-run and enjoyable event.
