Carberry votes for new EU rules to protect airline passengers

Midlands-North West MEP Nina Carberry, Ireland’s only full member of the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, has voted to approve new rules to protect passengers when flying this week.

Speaking from Brussels after the vote, MEP Carberry said: “The Parliament has made it clear that we will ban airlines from charging families to sit together.

“We have also voted to get rid of add-on costs for small pieces of hand luggage."

The vote also outlined a provision for customers to get compensation in cases where their flight us delayed by three hours or more.

“There’ll be easier, pre-filled forms for reimbursement and compensation, so passengers get their money back faster," Carberry added.

Final negotiations will soon begin with member states to agree on a final text before the law can start to be enacted across the European Union.
