Man appears before Circuit Court on drugs charges

A man has been remanded on continuing bail on drugs charges when he appeared before Roscommon Circuit Court recently.

Anthony Grehan (40), with an address in Beechlawn Drive, Athlone, had been sent forward to the Circuit Court on seven signed guilty pleas for seven charges. Those charges include possession of “a concoction of drugs”, including one for cocaine, two for diamorphine and one for zopiclone.

He is also charged with possession of cocaine for sale or supply and possession of diamorphine for sale or supply, with another charge of possession of diamorphine for sale or supply to the value of €13,000 or more.

All the charges relate to December 15, 2022, at an address at Mill Race, Bealnamulla, Athlone.

He signed those pleas in the presence of Judge Bernadette Owens at Athlone District Court and was sent forward for sentence before Judge Kenneth Connolly at Roscommon Circuit Court.

He affirmed those guilty pleas and Vincent Heneghan SC, on behalf of the accused, requested his client be remanded on continuing bail.

Mr Grehan is undergoing counselling and hopes to get a place in a residential treatment facility, the court heard.

He will reappear at the next sittings of Roscommon Circuit Court on March 10, 2026.
