Public consultation on plans for Shannonbridge plaza and Callows walkway
A public consultation event on plans for a new plaza area in the centre of Shannonbridge is to take place in the village next week.
The event will be held in the Shannonbridge Community Centre from 3-7pm on Thursday next, November 6.
The proposal is for a new public plaza at the heart of the village and a sensitively designed walkway across the Shannon Callows
This is the second such public engagement event, on foot of a similar consultation in October.
It’s expected that a finalised design for the project could emerge in Spring.
The project is being led by consultants dwg., who are heading up a multidisciplinary team appointed by Offaly County Council and supported by Failte Ireland under the EU Just Transition Fund’s Regenerative Tourism & Placemaking Scheme for Ireland’s Midlands 2023-2026.
The consultants say the plans will provide better access to the water’s edge, celebrate the area's ecological richness, and support Shannonbridge in becoming a more connected and welcoming destination for locals and visitors alike.
The proposed plaza is designed to create a place for people to meet, rest, celebrate and connect with the village’s unique setting on the edge of the Shannon Callows.
A key part of this project is the creation of a new low-impact walkway across the Shannon Callows, designed to sit lightly on the landscape and adapt to changing water levels across the seasons.
