Athlone Town trio extend contracts with women's first team

Fresh from achieving a Premier Division and FAI Cup double, Athlone Town has confirmed contract extensions for three key players in the women's first team squad.

Drum native Kayleigh Shine, who has played a pivotal defensive role since the team's formation in 2020, completing over 100 games for the club, will continue her career with Athlone Town in the 2026 season.

Winger Madison Gibson has also penned a new contract with the club for the 2026 season. The New Jersey native, who netted eight times for Athlone this campaign, joined Athlone Town in 2022 and will return for her fifth season at Lissywollen.

Both players, along with teammates Megan Plaschko, Hannah Waesch and Kelly Brady, were named in the PFAI Women's Premier Division 'Team of the Year' - see separate article here - a sign of Athlone's domestic dominance during the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, Kerryanne Brown has also put pen to paper on a contract extension with the club. The Donegal native joined Athlone Town in 2024 but picked up a serious injury which kept her out for the majority of 2025.

She made a return to competitive action at the end of the season, making her long-awaited comeback in the last league game against Sligo Rovers.
