Man charged with deception to reappear
A man is due to reappear before Athlone District Court, charged, as alleged, with two counts of deception by using credit cards without authorisation.
Abraham Brandon (33), with an address at Belvedere Place, Dublin 1, appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens last week, where evidence was heard relating to two separate charges of dishonestly obtaining services by deception.
The court heard how, on December 22, 2022, at the Athlone Springs Hotel in Monksland, Athlone, Co Roscommon, the hotel manager received a phone call ordering a €200 voucher, which was paid for on a credit card.
Two days later, it is alleged Mr Brandon arrived to collect the voucher under a false name and used it to buy food and drink at the hotel.
A second charge referred to July 14, 2024, at Athlone Leisure World, Grace Road, Athlone, where it is alleged Mr Brandon manually entered into a credit card machine the details of a credit card that he had no authorisation to use, to obtain party and leisure services to the value of €486.
The court heard how the card was refunded, but Athlone Leisure World was out of pocket as a result.
Mr Brandon was remanded on continuing bail to November 12.
