New Lidl store opens in Ballymahon

A new Lidl Ireland store has opened in Ballymahon this morning (Thursday).

The doors of the new supermarket opened at 8am, with Longford LGFA ladies' football vice-captain Katie Crawford cutting the ribbon.

The company said the opening of the new store on Church View, Main Street, Ballymahon, will result in the creation of 25 permanent retail jobs in the local community.

The supermarket chain was granted planning permission for the new store development last December, and in an update in August it said construction work on the project was "progressing well" at that stage.

The demolition of a single storey former St Matthew's NS building, and site clearance works, form part of the construction project.

Lidl said it will have a great range of opening day offers available for customers in Ballymahon, and that the first ten shoppers through the doors will receive complimentary gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

The Lidl Ballymahon store team has also chosen Bridgeways Family Resource Centre as the local charity to benefit from a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers on opening day.

In a statement, the supermarket chain said: "The new Ballymahon store reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious sales floor, offering a premier shopping experience for customers including self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

"Sustainability is a key focus for the Ballymahon store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system.

"This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, heat recovery systems, a DRS Machine, ample parking and electric vehicle charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams."

Tom McAuliffe, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland, said: "We are thrilled to open our new Lidl store in Ballymahon this morning.

"This new store represents a substantial investment in the local economy, creating long-term employment opportunities for the area.

"We are grateful for the incredible support from the local community and eagerly anticipate welcoming shoppers to experience our new store."

The new Ballymahon store will be open daily, from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 10pm, and on Sundays from 9am to 9pm.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees across its 188 stores, head office in Tallaght, and three distribution centres and regional offices.
