Féile na Sionnaine shows support to Sub Aqua Club
The Féile na Sionainne Committee recently presented a cheque for €750 to support the vital work of Athlone Sub Aqua Club,
The Sub Aqua Club was selected as the Féile’s charity partner to receive an award generated from the proceeds of fundraising activities. The Athlone Sub Aqua Club was selected in recognition of the hugely important work of its volunteers in search and recovery. Over the years this club has contributed to the recovery of many people.
The Féile na Sionainne Committee has also announced details of its 20206 festival.
Féile na Sionainne will take place over the long weekend from July 31 to August 2.
A spokesperson said: “We are already working to ensure that we can bring an exciting programme of events, concerts, and performances to the town. Look out for further news over the coming months as we confirm the line up.”
The 2026 event will build on the success of this year’s event. August saw the third hosting of Féile na Sionnaine, which is now a permanent and prominent fixture on Athlone calendar of annual events. This year’s Féile was the biggest and best yet, with continuous events throughout the weekend featuring local and national talented performers, young and not so young, of music, song and dance.
Once again, Féile na Sionnaine joined with Riverfest to bring a full programme of exciting and uplifting events to the town of Athlone over the August bank holiday weekend.
This year’s Féile crowned a significant year for the Athlone Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann. In April the branch hosted the Roscommon Fleadh Ceol over the Easter weekend. This was a very significant event for Athlone and for the branch, which had been reconstituted only the year before. The branch is going from strength to strength with weekly music classes and monthly sessions being very well supported.
As in previous years, the Féile featured a range of inclusive events for children and young people with additional needs as well as for those of advanced years. Age-friendly sessions and inclusive music therapy sessions were well supported and ensured that our wonderful music and culture was accessible to all.
In the run up to Féile local pubs hosted a session trail bringing to town the best of local talented musicians. A concert featuring the Kilfenora Roadshow and a Ceili bookended a long weekend packed with events and performances.
