Athlone Town to renew rivalry with Shels in President’s Cup clash
Key dates for 2026 League of Ireland season confirmed
The double winning Athlone Town women's team will start the 2026 season with a home President's Cup fixture against Shelbourne.
The curtain raiser to the Premier Division and FAI Cup champion's season will take place in the Athlone Town Stadium on Sunday, March 8, at 2pm.
John Sullivan's charges will begin the defence of their silverware on the weekend of March 14, the team's SSE Airtricity Premier Division campaign concluding on October 24.
Meanwhile, Athlone Town men's team will be hoping to eradicate the memory of the club's 2025 season when their SSE Airtricity First Division journey starts on Friday, February 13.
Athlone finished bottom of the First Division table as their season ended in October, 13 points adrift of second bottom placed club Kerry FC.
The First Division league campaign will run to October 16 with the play-off semi-final and final fixtures taking place from October 24 and Sunday, November 1.
The 2026 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup Final takes place at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 8 with the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup Final being held at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday, September 27.
The final of the Women's All-Island Cup, a competition which has alluded Athlone to date, will take place on Sunday, July 19.
