Clonown students earn their stripes
Clonown NS students are once again participating in the Stripe Young Scientist exhibition in Dublin.
The exhibition takes place in January in the RDS and encourages learning in science among primary school students.
The Clonown students are working on their project, 'Are Nettles Good For You'.
As part of their work on the project, the students collected nettles and made nettle tea.
They also researched the health properties of nettles, and their provision of calcium, iron and vitamins in the human body.
Janet Meade of Mother Miach Herbs provided a demonstration to students on collecting nettles, and making tea, while Owen Murphy of the National Parks and Wildlife Services will advise students on the role of nettles in providing habitats for corrncrakes.
