Two charged with assault causing harm in Athlone
Two men charged with assault causing harm to two men in Athlone on Monday night have been warned to stay out of Athlone after appearing before Longford District Court on Tuesday.
Juliano Ciwinski (22) of Sli Na Habhann, Ballinasloe, Co Galway and Mattie Sweeney (18), Moyne Park, Abbeyknockmoy, Tuam, Co Galway, appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens charged with two counts each of assault causing harm and one count each of using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Gleeson Street, Athlone, Co Westmeath.
The alleged incident took place shortly after 7.30pm on Monday, December 8, and the two male victims in their 50s and 60s respectively were taken to hospital for their injuries.
There was no objection to bail, the court heard, as a number of conditions had been agreed between the state and solicitor John Anderson.
The men were remanded on bail to January 28, 2026, in Athlone District Court, on the condition that they sign on three times a week at Ballinasloe and Tuam Garda Stations, and that they stay out of Athlone unless for Court appearances.
They have also been warned to have no contact, direct or indirect with the alleged injured parties, and to notify Gardaí within 24 hours of any change of address.
The two men were remanded on bail and will reappear before Athlone District Court on January 28, when DPP directions are expected.
