Warmest December temperatures recorded at Westmeath and Roscommon stations
Met Éireann said its weather stations in Westmeath and Roscommon broke their maximum temperature records for December earlier this week.
Storm Bram arrived on Tuesday, prompting an orange-level warning for strong winds in the Midlands and elsewhere in the country.
While the storm was less severe than other weather events earlier in 2025, the national forecaster said one of its side-effects was uncommonly high temperatures for this time of year.
"Storm Bram didn't just bring wind and rain, it also brought a very warm tropical maritime air-mass from the south which led to 12 primary weather stations breaking their December maximum temperature records," Met Éireann said.
At the Westmeath weather station, in Mullingar, a temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius was recorded on Tuesday.
This was the highest December temperature recorded at the station in its 75-year history, surpassing the previous record of 14.8 degrees Ceslsius on December 7, 2016.
It was a similar picture at the 21-year-old Mount Dillon weather station in Roscommon, which saw the mercury climb to 15.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, beating the previous record of 14.7 degrees Celsius on December 7, 2016.
The highest December temperature nationally, of 18.1 degrees in Peamount, Dublin, on December 2, 1948, was not exceeded on Tuesday.
