A large number of senior citizens gathered in Ballymore Community Centre on Friday week last, December 12, for a hugely popular community event. The party is an annual event supported by local businesses, volunteers, and the wider community.
The gathering started off with a Mass of Remembrance celebrated by parish priests, Fr Oliver Devine and Fr Godwin Atede.
The 140 guests enjoyed dinner, drinks and music by The Sheerin Family Band to celebrate the festive season.
“We have been organising the Christmas party for a long time,” one of the organisers of the annual event said: “The parishes of Ballymore, Boher and Drumraney combine their efforts to host this Christmas dinner event for senior citizens in the area. David Smyth provided the catering for the dinner.”
“The Sheerins were popular. Many guests enjoyed the dancing after the meal,” they said. “It's about bringing people together. It's an important social get-together for the elderly in our community at this time of year."
After the sit-down part of the event was finished, the finance committee held the big parish draw; numerous businesses and individuals in the area sponsor the draw, and it helps pay the insurance for the church for the year – and the draw event was a great occasion in the parish as well.
The committee also organise other initiatives throughout the year, such as summer outings and support services like personal alarms.
The organisers thanked the many local businesses and groups who made the day possible.
