Nuala Holloway relives her moment as ‘The Lemon’s Lady’ at launch
Mount Temple native Nuala Holloway had a real full circle moment when she attended the recent launch of a book detailing the history of the famed Dublin-based sweet company, Lemon's, which was a Christmas staple in every Irish household for well over a century.
Nuala has the distinction of being cast in the role of 'The Lemon's Lady' in a TV commercial for the Lemon's sweet company which was filmed in the late 1970's and broadcast across Ireland on TV and in cinemas.
The commercial featuring the Westmeath secondary teacher was presumed lost until it was recently discovered deep in the bowels of the RTE archives and was sent for remastering. The enhanced recording, featuring Nuala with her flowing dress and umbrella, was featured on an episode of the popular evening cultural programme, Nationwide, on Friday December 12 last.
Having represented Ireland at the Miss International Beauty Pageant in Okinawa, Japan in 1975, Nuala Holloway worked for a number of years in the areas of photographic modelling, TV commercials and acting before pursuing an Arts degree. She is now a secondary school teacher of Irish, English and Mandarin.
It was during the years she was working as a photographic model that she landed the assignment as the Lemon's Lady on RTE, beating off stiff competition from 400 other hopeful contenders for the part! Nuala holds the record for being the only actress to play the mascot for Lemon's Sweets in the 140-year history of the company, which was in existence from 1843 to 1983.
Returning to the Mansion House recently for the launch of a book by Cormac Moore and Alan Tate on the history of the famous sweet company was a night laced with nostalgia for Nuala Holloway, but she was delighted to relive her moment in the limelight as the only 'Lemon's Lady' in Ireland!
