Brigid's manager expects Stack and Daly to be fit for final
Despite the injuries sustained by Brian Stack and Mark Daly in last Sunday's win over Scotstown, St Brigid's manager Anthony Cunningham has sounded a positive note about their prospects of playing in the All-Ireland final.
Following the All-Ireland semi-final victory over the Monaghan champions, the main post-match concern in the Brigid’s camp was what appeared to be a rib injury suffered by Brian Stack. The inspirational Stack suffered a tough fall having jumped high into the Cavan air to prevent Scotstown goalkeeper Rory Beggan from gaining possession from a kickout.
"Brian is fine, a bit sore and a bit stiff, but he'll be fine. He hasn't broken anything, so he'll be okay," said Cunningham at the club's press function in Kiltoom last night (Wednesday).
Mark Daly was forced off early in the second half, with Cunningham stating in the immediate aftermath of the game that the midfielder took “a fairly heavy knock”.
Cunningham described Daly's injury as "bruising" to the his lower back/hip area, but expressed relief that there were "no breaks" involved in the injuries sustained by either Daly or Stack. He added that Daly "will be fine" to take part in the eagerly awaited showdown against Kerry champions Dingle (Daingean Uí Chúis).
A former All Star nominee, Stack is the joint captain of the St Brigid's team alongside Paul McGrath. Interestingly, Daly was joint captain along with McGrath when Brigid's contested the All-Ireland final against Glen of Derry in January 2024.
The St Brigid’s vs Dingle All-Ireland senior club football final showdown takes place on Sunday week, January 18 at Croke Park (throw-in 3.40pm). It will form a double header with the All-Ireland senior club hurling final between Ballygunner of Waterford and Galway champions Loughrea (1.30pm). Both finals will be shown live on TG4.
