'Please leave nothing but pawprints' - council adds zero-emissions van to Dog Control Service fleet
Westmeath County Council has confirmed the successful integration of a new fully electric, zero-emissions vehicle into the Dog Control Service fleet. Funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Dog Control Support Initiative, it underscores the council’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility across the county, they said in a statement.
The transition to an electric vehicle for the dog control patrols is a tangible step in the council’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance air quality in local communities, aligning with the ambitious goals outlined in the Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.
The zero emissions van prominently features the environmental message, ‘Please leave nothing but pawprints’, reflecting a shared commitment to preserving Westmeath’s natural beauty.
By upgrading the operational fleet, the council are improving the efficiency of the Dog Control Service, and leading by example in efforts to achieve national climate action targets.
Residents will see the new branded van on patrol across towns and villages in Westmeath as two new dedicated dog wardens continue to promote responsible dog ownership and ensuring compliance with dog control regulations throughout the county.
