Reopening date confirmed for Athlone Library
Athlone's Aidan Heavey Library is set to re‑open to the public on Thursday, February 19, it has been confirmed.
The library closed to the public on Friday, October 24 and was initially expected to reopen in mid-January.
A statement by Westmeath Libraries said that the library will be "fully operational" despite a "small amount of improvement works" which are continuing.
The re-opening will welcome the introduction of new and improved facilities, including a new Sensory Cubbie, which offers a calming, supportive space for users who benefit from sensory-friendly environments.
The new #MyOpenLibrary self‑service access is expected to begin in mid‑March, offering even greater flexibility for members.
The service will allow access to the library outside of core staffed hours, giving people the freedom to use study spaces, WiFi, printing, photocopying, and other essential services.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back through our doors and greatly appreciate the public’s patience and support during the upgrade works," the statement concluded.
