Athlone pair raising funds for local branch of Irish Wheelchair Association

Long time Athlone Athletics Club members Laura Nally and Liz Hogan are participating in a fundraising run in The Netherlands for the Athlone branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA).

The pair are continuing their training for the event in The Hague on Sunday, March 15, with all funds raised going towards the organisation's sensory garden project at the IWA Community Centre in Clonbrusk.

A huge community effort involving local tradespeople, businesses, Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) volunteers and staff saw the refurbishment of a sensory garden and new garden room open at the IWA Community Centre in Clonbrusk in July 2024.

Both runners have raised almost €3,000 towards the sensory garden project, surpassing their initial target set of €2,500.

On their fundraising idonate page, Laura and Liz have called on the local public to continue their support for the project.

"IWA Athlone's sensory garden will strengthen our community. By supporting this project you are helping to create an inclusive and therapeutic space for the local community.

"Every donation makes a difference," the pair stated.
