Temple Villa chairman guest of honour at Athlone Town game

Temple Villa have paid tribute to chairman Kieran Carroll who will be guest of honour of Athlone Town at the club's opening League of Ireland First Division fixture at home to Finn Harps tonight (kick-off, 7.45pm).

The current chairman was one of the founding members of the Mount Temple based club whose underage boys and girls teams compete in the Midlands Schoolboys/girls League. The club also have two senior men's teams who play their fixtures in the Combined Counties Football League.

The club said that "no one deserves this honour more having given so much to our club since its inception".

'Kieran has been part of the club's committee since its foundation and together with TP Hickey, has had the most impact on Temple Villa over a long number of years.

'He presided over the club with one team 53 years ago and is still involved where we now have 38 teams.

'Athlone Town was always a big favourite with Kieran and it's no coincidence that our club colours are the famous blue and black stripes'.

Temple Villa will also be represented at tonight's fixture by players from the club's U8, U9 and U11 squads who will act as mascots and ballboys for the occasion.
