Kiltoom native to lead Whoopi Goldberg auction

Kiltoom native Martin Nolan is behind a major Hollywood auction that will see items from Whoopi Goldberg’s personal collection go under the hammer next month.

Mr Nolan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, is leading Whoopi Goldberg: The Collection, a two-day sale taking place in California on March 10 and 11.

The auction will feature costumes, jewellery, artwork and memorabilia from the Oscar-winning actress and television host’s four-decade career.

Among the highlights are pieces worn in Sister Act 2, The Color Purple, The Lion King and The View, along with a Keith Haring original drawing, a Nelson Mandela signed book, a Bob Mackie-designed Academy Awards costume and a 1998 tour bus.

Mr Nolan, who is originally from Hodson Bay, described it as a "true honour" to work with one of the few entertainers to achieve EGOT status.

"This collection is a direct reflection of her meticulous eye for detail and lifelong devotion to artistry, serving as a testament to the unparalleled cultural legacy she has built over decades,” he said.

"These items represent more than just a curated selection; they are touchstones of a groundbreaking career, offering collectors a rare and personal connection to the moments that have shaped entertainment history."

Ms Goldberg said the sale marks the right time to part with some of the treasures she has gathered over “seven decades of a life well lived.”

“I’m honored to partner with the iconic Julien’s Auctions to find new homes for these special pieces, which I hope can now bring someone else as much joy as they have brought to me."

A portion of the proceeds will go to the charities One Simple Wish and Donors Choose.
