Arrest made after car crashes into front wall of Athlone house
A car believed to have been travelling at high speed in a residential area of Athlone crashed into the front wall of a house shortly after 12 noon today (Friday).
The collision caused significant damage to the front wall and parts of the garden at the property, in Retreat Heights, but no injuries were reported.
It's understood that the driver of the car - an Audi - was arrested at the scene. The car, which was badly damaged, has since been removed.
When contacted by the Westmeath Independent about the incident, a Garda press office spokesperson said: "Gardaí dealt with a single-vehicle collision at Retreat Height, Athlone, shortly after 12 noon. There is no initial report of any injuries.
"A full report is awaited and no additional information is available this time," the Garda spokesperson said.
