Castledaly GAA hoping to make their mark in The Kingdom
Castledaly GAA's intermediate men's team will participate for the first time in the Páidí Ó Sé Tournament in the Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, this weekend.
The famed club ladies and men’s club Gaelic football tournament has been running since 1989 and is deemed to be one of the highlights of the club GAA calendar.
Players, management and supporters will travel south to the Kingdom today (Friday), with the team in intermediate tournament semi-final action tomorrow (Saturday) at the home of An Gaeltacht GAA against Tyrone club side Aghaloo O'Neills at 10.45am.
Should they win, they will then play one of three clubs in the final, Macroom (Cork), Na Piarsaigh (Limerick) or O'Raghallaighs (Louth). The final will also be played tomorrow (Saturday) at 3.45pm.
A total of 13 counties from the the country's four provinces are taking part in the 37th edition of the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé, with 20 adult men’s and ladies club teams coming for a weekend of competitive football and social events including the popular Irish band Super Céilí at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub, Comórtas HQ, in Ventry, West Kerry.
Kerry senior footballer Brian Ó Beaglaoich, who helped to launch this weekend's tournament commented: “The club is a different feeling to your county. Occasions when you get together ahead of the season with your club mates in a social setting stands to you when you are competing on the pitch. We saw that ourselves with An Gaeltacht this past year. It binds you together. I wish all the clubs making the trip all the best for the weekend of the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidī Ó Sé.”
