Expression of interest in Connaught Street block 'withdrawn'

Westmeath County Council has confirmed that a developer in discussions regarding a potential purchase of four buildings on Athlone’s Connaught Street has withdrawn from the process.

The council said Avison Young would continue to market the properties, 39a to 45 Connaught Street, which have been on the market since June 2023.

The buildings, owned by the council, are described as offering a "unique town centre refurbishment/redevelopment opportunity in a prominent town centre location".

They cover a total area of 435.67 square metres, on a 0.1 hectare site, and the estate agent said they would be "suitable for a variety of uses in an area designated for urban regeneration."
